Case Study

South West Cambridgeshire Development

MK Surveys were approached by a developer to undertake a detailed topographical survey of 34sq. km of development land in Cambridgeshire.

Due to the size of the site, the most efficient method of acquiring the necessary survey data was from a manned twin engine helicopter.

The high resolution survey data was successfully recorded in just 3 days using a market leading aerial LiDAR and camera system which was accurately georeferenced with the use of an Inertial Measurement Unit and sophisticated noise filtering GNSS antennas.

The tatal distance travelled to complete the survey wass 367km.

Ground control points were established across the entire site and recorded using survey grade, multi-band, multi-constellation Network RTK GNSS equipment and double window measuring techniques.

Once all of the survey data had been recorded on site, a post-processing phase of the project began back at out head office, undertaken by out skilled and experienced aerial survey team.

This involved coordinating, adjusting and verifying the aerial survey data to the ground control points prior to the generation of the final high resolution LiDAR point cloud and orthophotos which were subsequently used to extract all specified topographical; features within specialist land surveying software, providing the client with an accurate 3D topographical survey prior to the clients tight deadline.
