MK Surveys experience in Utility Surveys means that we can offer a very professional service for borehole clearance.

We provide a detailed investigation using non-invasive methods to locate below ground services or utilities within the clearance specified locations.

All utilities located would be marked out on site in survey marker. If you are proposing a borehole location and it conflicts with a buried utility, then an alternative location will be suggested by the surveyor on site, to be agreed with your site engineer.

We also have the knowledge and capability to set out the coordinated borehole locations if required.

Water Leak Detection Services

MK Surveys experience in Utility Surveys means that we can offer a very effective service above and beyond traditional leak detection. Safety as always is critical and our staff hold specialist certification for working in confined spaces along with EUSR for working within areas of potable water

On visiting site we would use a variety of leak detection and surveying equipment to pin-point any leak to a high level of accuracy. Techniques include:

Leak Detection Listening Stick / Ground Microphone
Leak Detection Correlator
Leak Detection Meter Logger
Leak Detection Traditional land and utility surveying (GPR, EML, Total Station, GNSS)

All water mains and leak positions located would be referenced relative to a basic topographical survey undertaken by us at the time of the leak detection survey, or onto Ordnance Survey data, and included within that file as individually identified layers, with the completed file issued as a 2D AutoCAD and PDF file.

Water Meter Logging

Water Logging or Data Logging involves MK Surveys experienced staff installing a highly accurate water meter on each incoming water supply to your property / estate.

The data logger would generally be left on site for a week collecting data for water flow every minute.

Upon completion a usage report / consumption profile will be provided, indicating the difference between peak and off-peak times and ascertaining the site base rate. If a leak in the system is suspected, then recommendations for further detection and repair works will be provided.

Water Audits

This is the most comprehensive service offering a complete breakdown of where, and how much water is used.

This will include an incoming water logging survey and, if necessary, a leak detection survey and will provide a consumption profile identifying the amount of water entering site along with a consumption balance where this water is accounted for on site, for example in individual buildings, wastage, or any water lost through suspected leakage.

Water Pipe Repair

Where a leak has been detected we offer a full repair service including excavation to reveal the leak, remedial works along with complete re-instatement of ground.

The completed repairs will be documented by photographs, and the positions of the repair location will be updated on the original plan produced as part of the water leak detection survey.

Confined space regulations apply to many areas within the drainage and civils industries.

Specialist training and equipment is required to work safely and effectively within these hazardous and safety critical environments. MK Surveys has staff trained to City and Guilds (6150-02) level to work within confined spaces, we are also registered on the EUSR Energy & Utility Skills Register which allows us to work within areas of potable water.

Safety is critical in these environments and we work in conjunction with specialist rescue companies for the provision of emergency rescue and risk planning.

Our certified teams are generally utilised whilst working in sewers, inspection chambers, culverts, trenches, rooms and basements where there is a specified risk from conditions or substances and poor access.

CCTV Drainage Surveys, WinCan, CCTV Surveys, subscan, construction verification survey, pas128, PAS256 mobile mapping

MK Surveys carry out Drainage CCTV Surveys to ascertain the condition and prove the connectivity of drainage networks throughout the UK.

We utilise both portable CCTV units and full Drainage CCTV vans, giving us the flexibility to find a survey solution for all sites.

The data collected can be fully integrated with our other surveys or can be delivered as a stand-alone product.

The CCTV condition report is delivered in WinCan pdf format detailing the length of each pipe noting any connections, obstructions or potential problems, along with a DVD of all the surveyed pipe lengths filmed on site.

All our CCTV surveyors are experienced and are qualified to Industry standards ensuring the reliability of the data surveyed.

MK Surveys are licensed WinCan users.

PAS128 underground utility surveys, PAS128, GPR, desktop utility search, Asset Mapping, borehole clearance, subscan, PAS128 survey, sumo survey, utility mapping

MK Surveys Underground Utility Tracing and Mapping division was established in 2002 and offers a wide range of services aimed at the detection, verification and location of underground utilities. All of our surveys are carried out in accordance with “PAS 128:2022 Specification for underground utility detection, verification and location” published by BSI in 2014 and revised in 2022.

We use two geophysical location techniques to detect utilities, which are electromagnetic location and ground penetrating radar.

We also offer a variety of additional services including;

 Borehole Clearance Surveys

 CCTV surveys

 Confined Space Entry.

Desktop Utility Record Searches (Survey type D)

 Drainage Connectivity Surveys

 High Pressure Jetting and Descaling

 Radio Sonde Location

PAS128 Survey Types:

Desktop utility records search (survey type D)

This survey type would be in the form of a report identifying all known utility owners and their assets within an area including a list of affected and non-affected providers, along with any plans, maps, and diagrams provided. The deliverable would be in the form of a pdf document containing all information.

Site reconnaissance (survey type C)

This survey is accompanied by a desktop utility report (survey type D). It will involve a site reconnaissance visit to identify features that may indicate the presence of a service such as; manholes, valves, utility markers, street furniture and historic excavation scars. The deliverable will be in the form of a records overlay onto an existing topographical survey or OS base plan.

Detection (survey type B)

This survey is accompanied by a desktop utility report (survey type D). The detection survey is a non-penetrative survey conducted using at least 2 geophysical survey techniques. A consultation with the client during the quotation phase will identify the methodology used to conduct the survey. The final deliverable will be in the form of an AutoCAD file with a quality/confidence level assigned to all located services, and accompanied by a written report and photographic record.

Verification (survey type A)

This type of survey can complement a detection survey (survey type B). By visual inspection we can obtain further information to improve the confidence level and obtain additional information about a particular service. Visual inspection of a service can be via access points such as manhole / inspection chamber or by its excavation and exposure. For further details about confined space entry or utility excavation please contact us to discuss further.
